Americorps Recruitment Outreach Program
A challenging year of full-time community service. You'll earn an award of around $4,725 that you can apply toward further schooling or toward the repayment of loans. There are many programs to match your interests and 5 regional campuses to consider. Be a U.S. citizen,U.S. national or lawful permanent resident of the United States and at least 17 years of ago. Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation
Awards 50 ($20,000) 4-year college, and 200 ($10,000) 2-year college scholarships annually. Seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA (unweighted) and significant service in the community wishing to be considered for the 4-year college award may apply between August 1st and October 31st. The application period for The 2-year college scholarship runs from March 1st through May 31st. Have a 2.5 GPA and community service within the past 12 months to be considered for the 2-year college award.
Discover Card Tribute Award
Open to juniors only with a GPA of 2.75. Applicant must be accomplished in leadership and community service, plus have faced a significant roadblock or challenge. There are up to 10 scholarships of $30,000 each. Phone: (866) 756-7932. Deadline is early January of each year.
Florida State University
Awards are $2,400 each, renewable annually based on service while at FSU. Students enrolling at FSU with a minimum 3.0 GPA and significant service in the community may apply each January.
Harvard College
For students with financial need. Not based on merit. Parents in families with incomes of less than $60,000 will no longer be expected to contribute to the cost of attending Harvard for their children including room and board. In addition, Harvard will reduce the contributions expected of families with incomes between $60,000 and $80,000.
Intel Science Talent Search
For $5,000 up to $100,000, a new laptop, a trip, and a chance to meet with gov't. officials apply to the Intel Science Talent Search. Entries are due by mid-November each year.
Minority Awards Listing - (covering a wide variety of diversities)
Our financial aid office compiled this scholarship list - appropriate for students of diversity. Note that requirements, criteria, award amounts, and application deadlines vary widely. Please contact the scholarship organization before applying to learn if their scholarship and info are current.
NAACP Scholarships
Applicant must be high school senior, a member of the NAACP, and have a GPA of 2.5. Applicant must also be a U.S. citizen and/or be enrolled in an accredited college in the U.S. Find contact information by going on-line. Enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. The scholarship amounts and deadlines vary.
NSSAP/Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
Every high school and middle school student may submit one entry. Ten national honorees are awarded $5,000 and 51state honorees are awarded $1,000. Both national and state winners receive a medallion and an all expense paid trip with parents to Washington, D.C., in May. National honorees receive $25,000 to donate to charity in their name. Grades are NOT considered in this award competition, but exemplary community service is. Deadline is the end of October.
Society of Women Engineer’s Freshman Scholarship Program (SAE)
The scholarships are open to women majoring in engineering in an accredited engineering program. There are a number of awards ranging form $1,000 to $5,000. Phone: (877) 793-4636.
Southern Scholarship Foundation
Southern Scholarship Foundation is a self-help program that provides rent-free housing for college students! A student is provided a room, rent free, in a completely furnished home or apartment. Cash scholarships are not provided. High school students may apply, based on academic achievement, financial need, and character. Phone: (800) 253-2769. Application period first round ends March 1st, but continues through early July if spots happen to still be open.
The Elks National Foundation "Most Valuable Student" Competition
Applicant is judged on financial need, leadership and scholarship. Applications must be filed in early January with the Elks Lodge in your jurisdiction. You must advance through local & district to state level. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $15,000 per year and can be renewed up to 4 years. Usually available in September.
Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship Award
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and planning a career in government services. Application must include competitive academic record, SAT/ACT scores, letter of recommendation, and an essay stating why the applicant is planning a career in government service. Award amount is $500 - $5,000 over a four year period. Phone: (215) 949-8841. Deadline is mid-January.
Yoshiyama Awards
This award is not considered to be a scholarship. Awards of $5,000, dispensed over 2 years, are based solely on self-motivation and the significance and extent of service to the community. Grades and test scores are not considered, and the student need not be college bound. Must be a senior and must be nominated (see web site for the nominator to click on the nomination form) by a community leader, a member of the clergy, your teacher or your principal. You may NOT nominate yourself, and your parents should NOT nominate you either. Applications are available in December.
