July 4 July 4 holiday. Schools and district offices closed.

July 28 11-month administrators and supporting services personnel report to duty.

July 28-Aug. 8 Workforce education schools closed.

Aug. 4 10.5-month administrators report for duty.

Aug. 11 10-month clerical workers, teacher assistants and paraprofessionals report to duty. 10-month instructional personnel report to duty for a required school improvement site-based training day. Bus drivers report for six-day workshop. Food services managers report to duty.

Aug. 11-18 Professional development days for 10-month instructional and 11.5-month personnel.

Aug. 15 Food services workers report to duty.

Aug. 19 PreK-12 schools open; classes begin; workforce education schools open.

Aug. 28 Countywide graduation.

Sept. 1 Labor Day holiday. Schools and district offices closed.

Sept. 22-Oct. 3 Bus evacuation drills.

Oct. 17 Schools closed for students. State Professional Development Day. Catalogue of Choice Day. Holiday for bus drivers and cafeteria attendants. Food services workers on duty.

Oct. 23-24 First-quarter exams for schools on 4x4 schedules.

Nov. 16-22 American Education Week.

Nov. 19 Progress Energy Great American Teach-In.

Nov. 24-28 Thanksgiving holidays. Schools closed for students. Holidays for 10.5-month administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria attendants, food services workers, 196-day personnel (other personnel see below).

Nov. 24 District Training Day for 10-month instructional personnel (trade option). Professional Development Days for 11.5-month instructional personnel (trade option). 11- and 12-month personnel on duty.

Nov. 25 Professional Development Days for 11.5-month instructional personnel (trade option). Holiday for 10-month instructional personnel. 11- and 12-month personnel on duty.

Nov. 26-28 Thanksgiving holidays. Schools and district offices closed.

Dec. 22-Jan. 2 Winter holidays. Schools and district offices closed.

2009

Jan. 5 Schools and district offices reopen.

Jan. 13-15 First-semester exams for regular high schools.

Jan. 14-15 Second-quarter exams for schools on 4x4 schedules.

Jan. 16 Schools closed for students. First semester ends. Professional Development Day (10-month and 11.5-month instructional staff trade day) 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. All 10-, 11-, 12-month personnel and food services workers on duty. Holiday for bus drivers and cafeteria attendants.

Jan. 19 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Schools closed. All 12-month personnel on duty.

Jan. 20 Second semester begins.

Feb. 9-20 Bus evacuation drills.

Feb. 16 Schools closed for students. Professional Development Day (10-month and 11.5-month instructional staff) 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. All 10-, 11-, 12-month personnel and food services workers on duty. Holiday for bus drivers and cafeteria attendants.

March 23-24 Third-quarter exams for high schools on 4x4 schedules.

March 30-April 3 Spring holidays. Schools closed (12-month personnel see below).

March 31-April 3 Spring holidays for 12-month personnel. District offices closed.

April 6 Schools and district offices reopen.

May 25 Memorial Day holiday. Schools and district offices closed.

May 29 & June 1-2 Final exams for regular high schools.

June 1-2 Fourth-quarter exams for high schools on 4x4 schedules.

June 2 Last day for students. Two-hour early release for students. Second semester ends. Afternoon graduation. School Improvement Planning Day. Last day for bus drivers and cafeteria attendants.

June 3 Graduation. Professional Development Day for 10-month instructional personnel.

June 4 Graduation. Professional Development Day for 10-month instructional personnel (trade day). Last day for teachers.

June 10 Last day for 10.5 administrators.

June 17 Last day for 11-month personnel.
