Peggy L. O’Shea Elected School Board Chairperson Peggy L. O’Shea was elected chairperson of the Pinellas County School Board this morning. Board members elected Janet R. Clark vice chairperson.
O’Shea, who served as vice chairperson this year, was elected to the school board in November of 2006. Prior to her election, she was appointed by the governor to serve as chairperson of the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas, which administers school readiness programs and Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten Program. She also was a member of the Choice Reform Task Force and served on several district task forces and School Advisory Councils. O’Shea is a member of the executive board of the Palm Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce. She is a former member of the board of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative, the East Lake Community Library and the Pinellas Public Access Advisory Committee, and a member of the Palm Harbor Rotary.
Clark was elected to the school board in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. Prior to her election, she served as a teacher for exceptional students for 11 years, first in Charleston, S.C., and then in St. Petersburg at Meadowlawn Middle. She has a bachelor’s degree in special education from the College of Charleston. She is a member of the board of the Homeless Leadership Network, R’Club, the Louise Graham Regeneration Center and Florida RCS Grace House.
Prior to the organizational meeting, new and returning board members were sworn in. In addition to the returning Clark and Carol J. Cook, new members Nina Hayden and Robin L. Wikle took the oath of office.
