The Federal Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act requires all school districts to provide a comprehensive drug and violence prevention program designed for all students and employees. This program should include pro-social skills, character education and drug/violence prevention education. With this statute in mind, it is the intent of the Safe and Drug Free Schoolsˇ¦ office to identify appropriate and effective resources to assist schools in strengthening their programs.

Goals

To reduce the number of ATOD (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs) related
suspensions/expulsions in elementary and secondary schools.

To reduce the percentage of students reporting recent use of ATOD.

To increase students knowledge of ATOD information and related issues.

To reduce the number of suspensions related to disrespect/defiance and
other anti-social behaviors.

To increase the protective factors in the school environment which support
and promote a safe, disciplined drug-free school environment.
