Pinellas County School District Dr. Barbara Hires Associate Superintendent, School Success – Region V Responsible for 37 Elementary Schools
Vision One year of learning gains for each student each year.
Personal Mission My mission as the Associate Superintendent, School Success is to facilitate improvements in instructional design by monitoring relevant data and the consistent implementation of instructional best practices.
Belief Statements I believe: ▪ Principals, teachers and students learn best when meaningful relationships are built. ▪ Principals, teachers and students will excel in direct relation to the highest achievement expected. ▪ Principals, teachers and students learn at different rates. ▪ Principals, teachers and students learn best when actively engaged in relevant learning and/or professional development. ▪ Principals, teachers and students do not fail us, we fail to meet their needs.
Value Statement I value making a positive difference and impact on the learning experience of principals, teachers and students. Therefore, I will organize my time and talent so that I focus on the needs of principals first. With the principals, I will review, disaggregate and analyze student data at Region V meetings. Based on the data principals will be required to develop action plans in areas of need to ensure learning gains occur for all students. During school visits I will review the fidelity of the implementation of the action plans. Based on findings I will share feedback and recommendations to ensure learning gains occur for each student.
In Pinellas County, elementary schools focus on meeting the needs of each student. Our goal is to ensure that all students are reading at or above grade level before exiting third grade. This will ensure the beginning of a solid foundation of success for each student.
Instruction at the elementary level targets specific research-based best practices in reading, writing, math, and science which are implemented by utilizing grade level curriculum pacing guides and common assessments. The curriculum pacing guides are developed and implemented to ensure that all students are recipients of a guaranteed, viable curriculum that is based on the essential learnings at each grade level. The common assessments, which are either formative or summative, provide critical data that enables teachers to refine and differentiate their instructional strategies based on authentic measures of student learning.
Traditional and alternative programs are provided to meet the individual needs of each student enrolled in grades Pre-K through 5.
In Pinellas County we unite with all key stakeholders to ensure success for each student. We consider our families, business partnerships and community members to be vital entities in the success of our elementary schools. We believe that failure is not an option and we will do whatever it takes for each child to succeed at the elementary level.
