About Us…
Pinellas County Schools, an award-winning school district, has been
recognized on the national and state levels for its strong efforts and
dedication of its students, teachers and staff. The district is located
on Florida’s west coast and is the seventh-largest school district in
the state and 25th-largest district in the U. S. with a
projected K-12 student enrollment of approximately 103,500. Pinellas
County Schools is the largest employer in the county with more than
17,000 teachers, administrators and support staff.

The
district has strong community support with more than 30,000 volunteers
donating 1.1-million hours to assist Pinellas County Schools’ students,
teachers and staff members. Businesses and organizations were involved
in more than 5,400 partnerships last year, providing volunteer service
to classrooms, departments and schools.

Seventy-five percent of the district’s 117 graded schools
received an “A” or a “B” in the state’s A+ Plan 2009 rankings.
- In 2009,
17 graduates were named National Merit semi-finalists, three
received National Merit college-sponsored scholarships and five
received $2,500 National Merit scholarships.
- The
district currently has 478 National-Board Certified teachers.
- In 2009,
students from Pinellas County Schools received 4 gold, 6 silver
and 7 bronze awards at the National SkillsUSA competition in
career/technical education. Students from five district schools
took home 15 medals in the State SkillsUSA competition: 4 gold,
7 silver and 4 bronze.

Four district elementary
schools were awarded the 2009 “Promising Practices” in Character
Education Award by the Character Education Partnership..

- For the
second consecutive year, the district’s transportation
department was the recipient of a “Promising Practices” Award
from the Character Education Partnership and is the only
Transportation Department in the nation to win.
- Douglas
L. Jamerson Elementary and James B. Sanderlin Elementary were
selected 2009 Schools of Distinction by Magnet Schools of
America.
- Fuguitt
Elementary and Seminole Elementary were selected winners of the
Florida State Schools of Character by the Golden Rule
Foundation. They also were selected national finalists for the
2009 National Schools of Character Award by the Character
Education Partnership.
