| Developing and implementing a program of advanced academic studies integrated into the secondary school curriculum is the primary responsibility of the director of Advanced Studies and Academic Excellence. Additionally, the office is charged with supporting our Magnet and Fundamental programs and celebrating the academic success of students. The annual Honors Breakfast is held for students identified as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. The office of Advanced Studies and Academic Excellence works with Magnet and Fundamental school administrators to insure they have the support and resources they need to deliver these programs of excellence. |
PHILOSOPHY |
Expanding opportunities for more students to access rigorous courses leading to postsecondary success is the mission of this office. Those students who challenge themselves by taking the most rigorous courses offered in middle & high school are more competitive in university admissions, scholarship opportunities and more likely to succeed in postsecondary education. "The strongest predictor of college graduation is the intensity and quality of the student's high school curriculum." (Adelman, USED 1999) |
