Families New or Returning to Pinellas County Schools…

If you have a child who has received exceptional education services in the past, here is what you need to do to register:
  1. Visit a Family Education and Information Center (FEIC).

South County Location:  At PTEC St. Petersburg
3420 Eighth Ave. S, St. Petersburg, FL 33711
    727-552-1595

North County Location:  At Robinson Challenge
1101 Marshall St., Clearwater, FL 33755
    727-298-2858

The staff at the FEIC will assign your child to a school that has seats available in your attendance area. It is important to tell the staff that your child has been receiving the services of an exceptional student education (ESE) program. The staff at FEIC will connect you with the ADAPT office. ADAPT will assist you in verifying eligibility for continuation of ESE services. Please provide the ADAPT office with a copy of your child's IEP and any evaluations you may have.

    1. ADAPT South: 7801 22nd Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33710
      Phone: 727-344-6350, Fax: 727-344-6356

    2. ADAPT North: 2929 County Rd 193, Clearwater, FL 33759-1807
      Phone: 727-793-2710, Fax: 727-793-2716

  2. Go to your assigned school to complete the registration process. A temporary placement (or Florida reciprocity IEP) will be completed within a few days if your child qualifies for continued ESE services. If a temporary IEP and placement are required, the evaluation process will be completed within six months.

ADAPT has two major functions:

  1. Verifying eligibility for continuation of exceptional education services for those students who have been previously identified as exceptional students moving into Pinellas County and former Pinellas County students who are reentering Pinellas County (when a break in service has occurred). An exception includes services for gifted students. Students are referred by the teacher of the gifted at the school the student is attending.

  2. Evaluating nonpublic school students who may be eligible for exceptional student services in Pinellas County.

Private school information follows:

  • ADAPT North serves private schools located north of Ulmerton Road and ADAPT South serves private schools located south of Ulmerton Road.
