web design, and Internet services. Eligibility criteria include
a preferred 2.0 grade point average for grades 6-8 and
satisfactory discipline and attendance records.

The Center for Wellness and Medical Professions is a magnet
program designed to prepare students for careers in the medical
field and to help them develop a commitment to personal wellness
and the prevention of disease.
The curriculum provides educational opportunities to prepare
students for entry-level occupations or for pursuing
postsecondary degrees. This program also enables students to
examine the needs of the community and to seek partnerships with
health-care providers. Laboratory and field experience is
supported by applied academics. Eligibility criteria include
acceptable discipline and attendance records, grade point
average (GPA) for all final academic grades for grades 6-7 and
on the most recent report card of grade 8, if available, as well
as specified standardized test stanines ((see requirements
below).
Technical Program -- GPA 2.0, stanines of 4 or higher in reading
and math on the FCAT Norm-Referenced Test or a total battery
stanine of 4 or higher on a comparable standardized
norm-referenced achievement test.
Professional/License Program -- GPA 2.5, stanines of 6 or higher
in reading and math on the FCAT Norm-Referenced Test or a total
battery stanine of 6 or higher on a comparable standardized
norm-referenced achievement test.
Premedical Program -- GPA 3.0, stanines of 8 or higher in
reading and math on the FCAT Norm-Referenced Test or a total
battery stanine of 8 or higher on a comparable standardized
norm-referenced achievement test.

The Criminal Justice Academy magnet program at Pinellas Park
High is a four-year course study designed for students
interested in pursuing a career in law, law enforcement,
forensics and other criminal justice-related fields. Graduates
will be prepared to further their education at the technical
school, junior or community college and university level or to
enter the work force.
Eligibility criteria:
*Meet all entrance requirements at the conclusion of 8th grade.
*Stanines of 5 or higher in reading and math on the FCAT
Norm-Referenced Test or stanines of 5 or higher on a comparable
standardized norm-referenced test for grades 6 and 7.
*Cumulative academic grades of 2.3 or above for grades 6-8.
*Satisfactory discipline and attendance records.

First Responders: National Guard Center for Emergency Management

Beginning in August 2009, Pinellas Park High School will open
its magnet program First Responders: National Guard Center
for Emergency Management (the first of its kind in the state
of Florida) to a limited number of 9th
graders. This unique and challenging four-year program will
prepare students for entry into postsecondary education or
employment opportunities as first responders, with a goal of
certification in areas related to first responders. First
Responders: National Guard Center for Emergency Management
will focus on service to the community. Students will be
prepared for planning and initial response to emergency and
disaster situations. First responders may plan for, assess,
and/or manage natural or manmade disasters, terrorist acts,
hazardous materials incidents, civil disturbances, air-land-sea
rescues and other emergency situations. Instruction will focus
on broad, transferable skills and stress understanding and
demonstration of the following elements of the concepts of first
responders: community planning, emergency preparedness and
response, emergency health care, emergency planning and
emergency management, health safety and environmental issues,
underlying principles of technology, and concepts of command and
control related to emergencies and disasters of all kinds.

Exploring Careers & Education in
Leadership at Largo High is nationally recognized for its
innovative, research-based curriculum in a learning community
populated by motivated students desiring more than a "textbook"
education. Exploring Careers & Education in Leadership students
are enrolled in academically challenging courses as well as
strong leadership and career development classes and activities.
Our students reach out into the community to focus on their
individual and professional interests through the use of career
shadowing, internships, unique courses (e.g., leadership, peer
counseling, career research, SAT prep), a rigorous curriculum
and interdisciplinary class projects. This enables our students
to have a focused college or technical post high school goal.

*Minimum stanines of 4 in reading and math on the FCAT
Norm-Referenced Test or on a comparable standardized
norm-referenced achievement test.

The IB program provides highly motivated students with a
challenging and rigorous college preparatory liberal arts
curriculum. There are six areas of study with a syllabus and
examiniation for each; these areas are English and literature,
foreign language, experimental science, mathematics, study of
individuals and societies, and a sixth subject to be selected by
the student.
Ninth-grade eligibility criteria include satisfactory discipline
and attendance as well as:
*Stanines of 8 or 9 in reading and math on the FCAT
Norm-Referenced Test or a total battery stanine of 8 or 9 in
total reading, total language and total mathematics on a
comparable standardized norm-referenced achievement test.
*Final academic grades of B or above in grades 6 and 7.
*Successful completion of middle school prerequisites, algebra I
honors and at least one year of a foreign language by the last
day of the regular school year of 8th grade.

discovery zone for developing musicians, dancers and artists.
This program integrates leadership skills, performing arts,
rigorous academics and technology into a seamless curriculum
that prepares today’s students for the shift to tomorrow’s
challenges. Students without extensive formal training who want
to develop their talent and have the desire to be leaders need
to apply.

The Pinellas County Center for the Arts (PCCA) at Gibbs High
features a four-year course of study in dance, musical theater,
technical production, instrumental music, theater performance,
visual arts and vocal music. PCCA trains talented students who
are interested in pursuing an arts profession as well as those
interested in postsecondary academic degrees. The faculty and
staff are comprised of professional artists who continue to
actively practice their own art form. Adjunct instructors
address special needs. A professionally qualified audition
committee reviews each application based upon a audition and/or
portfolio and personal interview. Students without extensive
formal training in an arts area who demonstrate obvious talent
will be given full consideration for admission to the program.
Applicants are expected to have satisfactory discipline and
attendance records.
