Magnet Program: Center for Wellness and Medical Professions Graduate’s Success
Boca Ciega’s Center for Wellness and Medical Professions gives students like Veronica Hannah an educational opportunity to explore different medical fields and pursue a career path in the medical profession. Graduating from the Medical Magnet Program in 2005, Veronica attended St. Petersburg College and continued her education at the University of Florida where she will graduate this month with a degree in Biomedical Science.
Veronica said watching the Discovery Health Channel and the television show “ER” peaked her interest in the medical field. “Going through the magnet program gave me the opportunity to explore various medical fields and to shadow doctors in different specialties. It gave me the hands-on experience to know that the medical field was the right career choice for me.”
During her senior year at the magnet school Veronica had the opportunity to work in a nursing home and care for patients. “I loved the patient contact and helping with their needs,” she explained. Students had the opportunity to review patient charts, assess symptoms, and help determine a diagnosis.
Currently Veronica is preparing for the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) and will be attending graduate school at USF in the fall.
