Added Immunization Required for Kindergarteners; 7th-Graders Must Have Tdap or Td Booster
Children entering kindergarten in August must have two doses of the varicella (chickenpox) immunization rather than the one previously required or documentation of having had the disease. There is concern that not all physicians are aware of the change in state requirements so that children may appear at school without the proper immunizations and have to be turned away.
Here are all the K-12 immunizations required for the 2008-09 school year:
Four or five doses of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTaP) vaccine. Two or three doses of hepatitis B (hep B) vaccine. Three or four doses of polio vaccine. Two doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. NEW! Two doses of varicella vaccine for kindergarten. One dose of varicella vaccine for grades 1 through 7.
For students entering 7th grade, here is an additional requirement that must be met before admission:
One tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) or tetanusdiphtheria booster (Td).
