Security

In order to use the Pinellas County Schools Employee Self Service web site you must:

  • Have an active PCS network user-id and password.
This is the same user-id and password you use to access the district intranet and your district outlook account. The user-id is usually your last name followed by your first name initial.

If you do not have an active user-id, contact the PCS user support HELP desk at 727-588-6060. Hours are 6:45am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

It is highly recommended that you:

    • Do not share your password it will allow others to access your personal data from the district database.

    • Do not check the "Remember my password" option when logging in to ESS. If you have checked this option and wish to remove it, most browsers have an option to clear the remember password.
For instance, in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x, follow:
Tools > Internet Options > Content > Auto Complete > click on Clear Passwords.

    • Always log off ESS or close your browser when you leave your computer.

    • Close Acrobat Reader and MS Excel sessions displaying your data -
If you have clicked on "View" to display your pay statement or W-2 images as PDF's, you will need to close these Acrobat Readers sessions separately.
If you have downloaded data to MS Excel, you will need to close Excel.

  • Use a Web browser that supports Secure Socket Layers (SSL) protocol with 128 bit encryption (or higher.) ESS uses Secure Socket Layers (SSL) protocol with 128 bit
cipher strength which ensures that the data will be encrypted as it travels between your browser and the district server and is only viewable by you. Most current browsers have this capability.

  • Use Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 or later to view and print pay statements and W-2 statements (Although the rest of the site is viewable without this).

You may also want to consider clearing your cache when done Browsers typically store/save pages displayed on your monitor to your hard disk. This can allow others to see your personal information if they have access to your machine. This automatic saving or caching of data is needed in order to allow you to print information from your browser and to provide greater speed in navigating back and forth between ESS pages. Since this caching leaves personal information on your hard disk, you may want to clear your cache and close your browser after leaving ESS. See your browsers options or preferences (depending on the type of browser you use) to clear this data. For instance, in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x: click on TOOLS and choose Internet Options. Then select the tab labeled "General" and look for the area named "Temporary Internet files". In that area, click on the "Delete Files" box. This will delete your cache.

Troubleshooting
  • Acrobat Reader 7.0 Or Later Is Required For Viewing And Printing Of Your Pay Statements And W-2 Images.
ESS gives you the capability to view and print images of your current and past payroll statements and W-2 statements. These images are Acrobat Reader (PDF) documents. Because of the way these images are secured (so only you can view them) it is required that you have Acrobat Reader 7.0 or later installed on your computer.

Acrobat Reader is free and can be downloaded from the Adobe web site by clicking here.

  • Pop Up Blockers May Need To Be Turned Off For ESS To Function Properly
