The Pinellas County Schools Quality Academy spearheads the Quality Management efforts in the school district through training, consultation and materials development. The Academy has received international attention and has become a dynamic force for organizational change within Pinellas County, Florida and the nation. In 1993, the Pinellas County Schools District was recognized as a benchmark for its world class application of quality principles and was awarded the prestigious Florida Governor's Sterling Award. Pinellas also participated in the 1995 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (Education Pilot). In 1998, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Elementary School earned the Governor's Sterling Award, the first school to receive this distinguished honor. In 2000, Azalea Elementary School earned the Governor's Sterling Award. Carwise Middle School earned the Governor's Sterling Achievement Award for Quality in 1994, 1997, 1999 and 2000.
