• What Is Interact?

Interact club is a service club for youth ages 14 to 18 and is part of Rotary International, the world’s first service club organization. The parent international organization consists of over 30,000 clubs around the world and boasts more than a million business and professional leaders as members. Individual Rotary clubs sponsor the youth component, Interact clubs, by providing guidance and support. The first Interact club was founded in 1962. Interact’s name is a combination of the words international and action.

    What does Interact Do?

All Interact clubs sponsor a minimum of two community service projects annually. One project should support an understanding of international goodwill. Another service project should benefit the local community or school. The club meets at least twice monthly. Active members must maintain a 60% attendance record with a minimum or four participating events.

    What does PHUHS Interact Do?

Palm Harbor University High School Interact Club helps its Palm Harbor community by completing a Holiday canned food drive every fall that benefits FEAST food pantry.  The generosity of the PHUHS family has increased annually.  Interact also sponsors a holiday adoption to benefit struggling families in the North Pinellas area.

A  number of trained Interact members participate in a program sponsored by the American Lung Association called STS (Students Teaching Students) in which these students present a lesson on the dangers of smoking to 4th grade students at 5 local area elementary schools.

PHUHS Interact has sponsored a variety of International service projects which include Books for Belize – a project in which books were collected to provide a small school in a Belize community with a library books to help improve literacy.  The group also raised money for “End Polio Now” a Rotary project that pays for immunization in countries where polio is still a problem for many.  In 2009-10 school year, the club raised money to send to the survivors of the Earthquake in Haiti through the American Red Cross and most recently Interact raised money to send to Water Hope to provide permanent clean drinking water to third world communities.
