Child Find assists parents and schools in the early identification of children who are at risk of developing special or unique needs and who are not being served in a public school. These children, ages ranging from birth through 21– with an emphasis on birth to five, may be eligible for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and links them with needed services.
FDLRS Gulfcoast, in cooperation with county school districts and county public health departments, sponsor a free Child Find Preschool Screening program. Children ages 3 to 5 years, not currently enrolled in a public school, are eligible to participate in the screening program. The child's parent/guardian must accompany any child participating in a screening.
Preschoolers are screened in the areas of motor, pre-academics, speech/language, behavior/social skills, vision and hearing. The screening takes approximately one hour. After the child is screened, a member of the screening team meets with the parents to review the screening results and to make any recommendations.
