2018-19 Facility Renovation/Security Updates
We have implemented a process at dismissal. The purpose of the fencing project that originated last year was to keep the campus secure during school hours. This prevents people from entering buildings and classrooms when staff members are not on duty monitoring the hallways. Students may not be released to their families until 2:45 unless they are signed out early for an appointment etc. Families need to wait outside of the gated area until dismissal time. At 2:45, the gates are opened and families are welcome to enter. Please stay in the front porch area of the school near the office. Students will come out to meet you.
This is a process that was recommended by the PCS district safety team and has been in place for a while at most other Pinellas County Schools. Thank you for understanding that this is for the safety of all children. At San Jose, safety is our highest priority.
Many parents have noticed some recent changes and improvements being made to the San Jose facility. In order to maintain open communication, we will be providing facility updates periodically to help keep our families informed of changes they may see around the school.
Representatives from the district’s energy saving department continue to work with the plant operations crew and the school to maintain our low energy usage. San Jose is committed to the environment and we actively take steps to reduce energy usage at the suggestion of the district. This plan is not expected to have any major impact on our current way of work and the energy saving department works with school staff as a team to make changes when appropriate and as needed, for example with replacement of older equipment).
