6th Grade Team

Welcome to 6th grade!

Welcome to middle school! We are pleased to have you join our Morgan Fitzgerald family and the Center for Gifted Studies. We are looking forward to a fun and educational year with your child!

Our Philosophy

We believe that all students can and should learn to their fullest potential, and we are here to help your student achieve his or her dreams. We will do everything in our power to ensure that your student has a successful transition to middle school and a productive 6th grade year.

6th Grade
The theme for 6th grade students is Change. Change is universal. It happens to everything and everyone in all places, at all times. Change may be monumental or incremental. Change can be sudden or nearly imperceptible. Some changes may be unavoidable.
Why study change?
If we learn how and why things changed in the past, we can:
  • Make predictions about what may cause change in the future
  • Understand our present better
  • Attempt to guide decisions and actions in a manner that may encourage postive changes
  • Take measures in an attempt to avoid the mistakes of the past that have resulted in negative changes

In advanced academics, students learn about what it means to be a gifted student, methods for organization, independent research skills, goal setting, and explore methods for effective interpersonal communication. 6th-grade students participate in the National History Day academic competition. This competition allows students to research a topic of interest in history in keeping with the annual theme.  The 2018-2019 theme is Triumph & Tragedy in History.
