Bring Your Own Device Program
Pinellas County Schools has implemented a Bring Your Own Device program enabling students to bring wireless devices for use in the classroom. At home students are actively using wireless devices to do homework, research projects, read, and communicate with friends, etc. The opportunity to use wireless devices is almost limitless. Students wishing to participate must follow the responsibilities stated in the Acceptable Use Policy as well as the following guidelines.
Complete and return the BYOD Student Agreement to Mrs. Ferra. Students who have a BYOD Student Agreement on file are allowed to bring their device for use in the Library Information Center (LIC).
For the purpose of this program, the word “device” means a privately owned wireless and/or portable electronic piece of equipment that includes laptops, netbooks, tablets/slates, and smart phones capable of accessing the Internet.
Three apps are required because each eBook vendor has their ownapp to open the eBooks we buy from them.
At school, students can connect two ways:
1. Student's Data Plan (Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.) on their personal device.
2. PCSB-guest wireless. See Mrs. Ferra for guest user name and password.
After installing all three apps, open Follett Discovery.
Choose "Forest Lakes Elementary" as your school.
Click "Log In" and use your student username and password. (We also call this your R2.D2)
Search for eBooks.
Open and Read! You may now bring your mobile device to the Library Information Center (LIC) to read books or to have Mrs. Ferra help you with setting up your mobile device.
