Palm Harbor Community School (PHCS) offers online high school core courses in a self-paced learning lab after school.  Our school works closely with the high schools in north Pinellas County by providing online core curriculum credit recovery classes to students age 16 or older who have failed a class and are in danger of not graduating.
In addition to helping students graduate on time, this credit recovery program helps high schools improve their graduation rates and makes a positive contribution to the DOE school grade.
Pearson's GradPoint online curriculum gives students who enjoy working on a computer the ability to complete a course online.  Teachers track performance electronically, monitoring lessons, tests and student activity. The online program calculates the amount of time the student spends on each module and assists the teacher in determining if the student is spending adequate time on the material. GradPoint is used  in the school district and requires that modules and assessments are to be completed in class.
Students take a pre-test or initial assessment before each module and if they pass that test indicating mastery of the subject matter, they may move forward to the next module.  Students must complete each module at a "C" level or higher in order to move on to the next one. Students work at their own pace but are expected to make adequate progress and complete the coursework with a final grade of "C" or better in a reasonable amount of time in order to receive credit for the course.
