What do you do?
Choosing a career is a very important decision, and the instructors in Tomlinson’s Adult Career Pathways Lab help students do just that. Students use a program called FLORIDA CHOICES to get to know their skills and interests, become informed about careers, and create a plan for career training after they complete their Tomlinson program.
How do I get started?
The first step in our ACP Lab is for students to identify their interests and specific careers that fit those interests. They research the income potential, as well as job growth outlook over the next 10 years, for their chosen careers.
From there, students research what skills and training are required for each career in which they are still interested. They identify the Florida colleges and technical schools that offer that training, which of those schools they might wish to attend, and what the training costs are at each school.
They conclude by making a plan to complete their Tomlinson program, upgrade their skills to meet admission requirements of the postsecondary school they plan to attend, get funding for their upcoming career program training, and enroll in their chosen college or technical school.
What activities do you offer?
Student activities arranged by the ACP Lab staff include presentations on different careers, local colleges and technical schools, and the process of applying for financial aid. Field trips to postsecondary schools such as St. Petersburg College and Pinellas Technical Education Center are also scheduled regularly.
