Assessment, Accountability & Research

The mission of Assessment, Accountability, and Research (AAR) is to enhance the quality of educational decisions by providing Educational Research, Program Evaluation, Testing, and Accountability Services and information to all stakeholders through an effectively managed system based on the Principles of Continuous Improvement. AAR assists the district in making informed decisions by collecting and analyzing data on student learning. The department manages key accountability measures, including school grades and graduation rates, and oversees state and district assessments, providing accurate reports and resources that support student achievement and instructional improvement.

 

Career. Technical and Adult Education

The department empowers students and adults with skills for college, careers, and lifelong learning. Through Career and Technical Education programs, students gain hands-on experience, earn industry certifications, and prepare for high-demand fields such as healthcare, technology, and skilled trades. The department also offers Adult Education, including GED® preparation, high school diploma programs, classes for English learners, and workforce readiness training. Pinellas Technical College offers short-term, career-focused programs with strong job placement rates, enabling graduates to enter the workforce quickly. Partnerships with local businesses and community organizations ensure programs align with industry needs and offer real-world opportunities. 

 

Charter Schools and Home Education

The department provides valuable resources to parents seeking information about charter schools in Pinellas County or guidance on establishing a home education program in Pinellas. Charter Schools are recognized as public schools and funded by the Florida Department of Education. Home education programs give parents the freedom to determine their child's educational path, but they have certain notification, record-keeping, and evaluation requirements.  

 

District Application / Magnet and Fundamental Programs

District Application Programs are Pinellas County Schools' Magnet and Fundamental programs, which offer specialized educational opportunities to engage students, strengthen and develop their talents, or provide an alternative option to the zoned school.  Magnet programs focus on specific themes or areas of study, and fundamental programs emphasize a structured, traditional approach to education. 

 

Florida Standards

The state provides a set of standards in order to prepare students for success and make them competitive in the global workplace. Each Florida Standard provides clear expectations for the knowledge and skills students need to master in each grade and subject so they will be prepared to succeed in college, careers and life.

 

Strategic Communications 

The office plays a vital role in fostering transparent, timely, and effective communication between the district and its many stakeholders. The team is dedicated to delivering accurate, accessible information to district leaders, employees, students, families, and the broader community. The department manages the district’s Newsroom and leads districtwide campaigns, leveraging multimedia storytelling, proactive media engagement, and dynamic social media strategies. The department is dedicated to building trust, strengthening community connections, and highlighting the achievements that make Pinellas schools outstanding.

 

Strategic Partnerships

The office is focused on building connections between families, communities, schools, and the district, all working together for 100% student success. From volunteering and mentoring programs to partnerships with local businesses, community groups, faith-based organizations, governments, and universities, the Strategic Partnerships team has it covered.

 

Strategic Planning and Policy

The department focuses on developing, implementing, and maintaining the district's continuous improvement. The primary goal of the department is to ensure all initiatives align with the district's vision, mission and strategic plan. The department is responsible for initiating and guiding districtwide improvement strategies, providing project management support and ensuring that plans and decisions are consistent with the organization's priorities and goals.

 

Student Registration

The Student Assignment Office manages school enrollment and placement for students across the district. The office helps families register for school, reserve seats at zoned schools, apply for magnet and fundamental programs, and submit required forms.

 

Technology and Information Systems

The department is responsible for managing the district's information management and data processing requirements. TIS is organized into six key groups: User Support, Telecommunications, Data Center and Infrastructure Systems, Application Support and Development, Cybersecurity, and Records Management.
