The adult English for Speakers of Other Languages program, often referred to as ESOL, is designed to help individuals improve their English literacy skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
The goal of the adult ESOL program is to prepare students to communicate in English for a variety of purposes including employment, education, and to be active participants in the everyday and civic life of their new country. Our program embeds citizenship lessons to help prepare eligible permanent residents to successfully complete the process of becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen.
Classes operate countywide during day and evening hours and are available at five adult education centers, two postsecondary career training centers, and numerous off-campus locations. Enrollment is open entry and allows students to begin instruction conveniently at any time. Upon registration, students are given assessment tests to help with proper placement and instruction.
