With three plans to choose from, it’s important that you take the time to understand the plans, how they work, and how much you will pay in both out-of-pocket costs and payroll deductions. Just because a plan has lower payroll deductions, it may not be the lowest cost option if you and/or your dependents need a lot of care.

Ask Yourself These Questions

• Can I afford the payroll deductions for the plan I am considering? More information. 
• What are the copays or other costs for doctors’ office visits? How many doctor visits do I or my family have in a year? View the 2026 Medical Plan Comparison Chart or for a comprehensive listing, review Aetna's Certificates of Coverage.
• If I am hospitalized, what costs might I incur? What are the hospital copays? Are coinsurance and/or deductibles required? View the 2026 Medical Plan Comparison Chart or for a comprehensive listing, review the Aetna's Certificates of Coverage.
• What are the annual maximums I might have to pay should I or a covered dependent become seriously ill or injured? View the 2026 Medical Plan Comparison Chart or for a comprehensive listing, review the Aetna's Certificates of Coverage.
• Are my doctors and other providers in network? Check network names and then search on aetna.com.
• Do I want to use doctors or hospitals outside of the network? If so, how much more will I have to pay for these out-of-network services? More information.  
• Do I have other coverage through my spouse’s employer and/or individual policies? If yes, should I opt out of medical coverage and use the $75 Board Contribution credit to purchase other pretax benefits? More information.

Rates are based on a full year of coverage. Deductions are taken over 20 pay periods with no scheduled deductions taken in the summer. (This also applies to 12-month employees.) You pay for insurance coverage over a 10-month period but are covered for the entire calendar year.
