Hospital/Homebound Services

A student who is eligible for Hospital/Homebound services has a medically diagnosed physical or psychiatric condition that is acute or catastrophic in nature, or a chronic illness, or a repeated intermittent illness due to a persisting medical problem that confines the student to home or hospital, and restricts activities for an extended period of time. The corresponding definition is found in State Board of Education Rule 6A-6.03020, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.)

Hospital/Homebound is an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) eligibility that is determined by an Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team based on multiple sources of data. One part of that data is the referral that is completed by the parent and the student’s referring physician.  At the initial meeting, the team will determine what, if any, additional data is needed to determine eligibility. If found eligible, the IEP Team will write an Individual Education Plan and determine where and how services will be provided. This service is intended to be temporary, with students taking a reduced course load.

If you feel your child may require Hospital/Homebound services, please contact the Guidance Counselor or ESE Case Manager at your child's school to schedule a meeting to discuss your concerns.
