    How does one enroll in the On-Site GED program?

    Come to the Dixie Hollins Adult Education Center office, Room 406 (located in the back of campus near the ESOL portables), and begin testing to qualify to take the GED exam. Please arrive by 10:00 a.m. on your first day.

    How does one enroll in the Madeira Beach location programs?

    Come to the portable just east of the main bulding on the Madeira Beach Fundamental campus and begin registration and testing. GED classes are offered in the morning, and ESOL classes in the evening.

    ABE/GED classes are offered at SPC Seminole. There are minimum entry level skill requirements for this location. Please contact an instructor directly.


    When are the classes offered?

    Day classes:
    Monday through Friday 7:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

    Night classes:
    Monday through Thursday 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

    Attendance for day and evening classes are flexible.

    Who is eligible to take the class?

    The class is open to anyone 16 and older, who is not currently enrolled in Pinellas County public schools and meets minimum skill level requirements.



    Will SPC accept a State of Florida High School diploma earned through this program?

    From Section 1003.435, F.S., Rule 6A-6.021:

    ...Upon successful completion of the requirements prescribed herein, The Commissioner shall award the candidate a State of Florida high school diploma...and shall be considered a high school graduate...

    Salvation Army

    What is the Salvation Army?

    The Salvation Army is an adult residential rehabilitation center that houses 120 men who are recovering from alcohol and/or drug addiction. The facility offers the residents work adjustment services through the sorting and pricing of donations, which are sold through the Salvation Army Family Store. The Salvation Army has partnered with Dixie Hollins Adult Education Center to provide both a classroom and computer lab for GED students.


    Who can attend classes?

    Classes are open to anyone 16 and older, who are not currently enrolled in Pinellas County public schools. Classes are open to the public as well as the residents of the program.


    What is the admission and registration process?

    Students come into the GED classroom #2 and complete a registration form. Next, students complete a two-part TABE assessment that provides the teacher with diagnostic information. An individual academic plan is then developed for the student. Enrollment is open so students may begin any day of the week.

    What instruction is offered and when?

    ABE/GED instruction is offered daily Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

    Evening ABE/GED classes are offered on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.

    The curriculum is a self-paced learning experience to build academic skills and abilities to pass the GED examination and earn a high school diploma. Upon earning a diploma, students will be eligible to pursue post-secondary training in a vocational program or college.

    What is Pinellas Hope?

    Dixie Hollins Adult Education Center has partnered with Catholic Charities to provide ABE/GED instruction to in-house clients to provide each individual the opportunity to achieve a high school diploma and/or career exploration.

    The curriculum is a self-paced learning experience to build academic skills and abilities to obtain a GED, achieve work readiness, or enter post-secondary training in a vocational program or college.

    What is the Partnership that Dixie Hollins Adult Education Center has with the Pinellas County Jail?

    Classes are offered to ABE/GED, ESOL and low-level readers. All classes are on site and located in three different housing divisions: Central, North/Annex and South. Pinellas County Schools offers GED testing to a limited number of students who qualify.


    How does an inmate register for one of these classes?

    To register for any ABE/GED, ESOL and reading class the inmate must send an inmate request for form 62 to Program Services. After the form has been processed, the inmate will then be enrolled into the appropriate class.


    When are classes offered?

    Monday through Friday in Central and North Divisions.

    Monday through Thursday in South Division.

    Dixie Hollins Adult Education proudly offers an online component of our vast curriculum - also called "distance" GED!

     
    All GED distance students must be able to visit the Dixie Hollins Adult Education Center or the St. Petersburg College @ Gibbs GED classroom to take initial placement testing and complete registration forms, as well as complete periodic academic progress testing. Eligibility requirements apply.
