Located near the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Pinellas County, Dunedin is a family community with a rich Scottish heritage. It was originally settled in 1898, by two Scotsmen, J.O. Douglas and James Sumerville. They named the community Dunedin, which was the original name of Edinburgh, their Scottish hometown. The sound of bagpipes can often be heard throughout the community even today.

Dunedin is a very active community with a thriving downtown shopping and restaurant area which hosts many festivals and events throughout the year. It also has several beaches, including Caladesi Island which has been named the Number 1 Beach in America by Dr. Beach. It has a large marina and is easily accessible by boat. In addition, the Pinellas Trail runs right through the community and the downtown area providing several options for exercise and travel.
