International Studies at Largo Middle School
Interdisciplinary Program of International EducationLargo Middle School's International Studies Program includes an advanced and rigorous coursework while providing a solid foundation for learning independently, and with others. The international curriculum encourages students to become critical, reflective thinkers and creative problem-solvers while practicing communication, self-management, organization, and information literacy. Using the inquiry framework students learn and develop skills that will promote success in college, careers, and citizenship in the 21st century global environment. Through careful planning of instruction, students will learn to take responsibility for their learning as they find purpose for their studies in a safe and supportive learning environment.Eight subject groups are integrated through global contexts that provide a framework for learning within and across the subjects. The intedisciplinary nature of this international curriculum helps students build a strong foundation for responsibility and citizenship at the national and global level, encouraging reflective practice that inspires active and responsible participation in their communities. Our interdisciplinary approach emphasizes connections between traditional subjects and the real world. This provides opportunities for meaningful planning and research among students and teachers, guiding students to monitor and direct their own learning through effective decision making, goal setting, and time management. Throughout the coursework, students are challenged to solve problems through critical thinking and reasoning skills, show creativity and resourcefulness, and value the importance of lifelong learning. For further information, please contact the magnet coordinator, Julie Finley at email@example.com or call (727)588-4600.For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit http://www.ibo.org*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Midle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme and the IB CP.
