• Summer Messages:

    6-27-22

    Good evening, Spartan Families,

We are in our final week of Summer Bridge, and the students had a great time selecting new books from the Book Bus today! As a reminder, summer hours are still Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.  Someone is available to answer the phone from 8 am to 2 pm each day (M – Th).  If you need to reach the office beyond the 8 am – 2 pm time frame, please email tsms@pcsb.org and we will return your call/email as soon as possible.

Summer Reading Requirement:  I attached the 2022 Summer Reading Requirement developed by our ELA team.  Sixth graders will read The Sparks by Kyle Prue, seventh graders will read The Flames by Kyle Prue, and 8th grade students will read The Ashes by Kyle Prue.  We ordered extra copies for each grade level so please call the front office if you would like to borrow one of the books.  Students also have the option to select any book from the Sunshine State list to read and complete one of the project options below.

Students will then be expected to choose one of the following assignments and turn it in during the first week of school:

    1. Design a simple children’s book.
    2. Write a two-page typed script of a key scene of the novel.
    3. Create a simple game and answer key, depicting key information from the text.

Math – Multiplication Facts:  Knowing multiplication facts is necessary for the foundational knowledge of middle grades math.  Therefore, students will be quizzed each day during the first week of school to ensure all students know their 1 - 12 times tables.  Practice, practice, practice over the summer so all students come in ready to succeed!

Attention Rising 7th Grade Students:  All 7th grade students must have their T-Dap immunization prior to beginning fall classes. Please reach out to your health care provider or the health department to schedule your student’s TDAP if you have not done so already.

Spartan Camp: Orientation for all incoming 6th grade students is Monday, August 1st.  One parent/guardian/adult must also attend.  Please only report to your scheduled session.

    • Session 1: 8:30 am – 9:45 am – 6th grade students who attended Tarpon Springs Elementary School.
    • Session 2: 10:15 – 11:30 – 6th grade students who attended all other elementary schools.
    • Session 3: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm – Rising 7th and 8th grade students new to Tarpon Springs Middle School

Thank you for all you do to support your student and our school!

    Sincerely,

    Erin Phelps, Principal
