Chess Club meets weekly. Students learn the strategic game which helps build logical thinking, order of operations, sequencing, and spatial relations. These skills can help students in reading and math. Students also build their length of attention span, concentration skills, learn to accept consequences, and build social skills with turn taking, fair play, and good sportsmanship. Woodlawn Chess Club competes in Downtown Tournaments twice per year and has an In-House Tournament at the end of the year. The Club is for 2nd Graders and up, unless a student already knows the game.
