Summer Reading Activities and Opportunities

Students may participate in activities at any of the public libraries. Many libraries have activities such as anime/manga clubs, gaming afternoons/evenings, escape rooms, and more!


Largo Public Library reading challenges, year-round and summer: Earn coins as you log your reading and activities, and trade them in for prizes at the library. (hasn’t been updated for 2024 yet)

 St. Pete

Pinellas County Summer Reading Kickoff Event: Saturday, June 1st 10:30-12 at James Weldon Johnson Library. This summer the St. Petersburg Library System offers free programming for all ages, including take-home activities, reading challenges, prizes and more. Pick up a summer programming packet at our free kickoff event, including take & make craft kits for kids, teens, and adults. Enjoy balloon art from Tony the Balloon Guy, explore an electric bus with PSTA’s touch-a-bus program, and grab a free Sno-cone. A beloved Rays mascot will make a special appearance during the event. Tombolo Books Middle Grades Book Club: Meets third Monday of every month at Tombolo Bookstore, reads a wide variety of age-appropriate genres, open to 4th-6th graders (and a little on either side!) Sign up for information here:

Barbara S. Ponce Public Library: Holding their annual Summer Reading Kickoff event on Saturday, June 1st, from 11am to 1 pm. 

Teen book boxes: Book boxes are created uniquely for you! Fill out the form tell them what you like, don’t like, what you’ve read recently, and the kind of activities you enjoy. Using this information the teen librarian will select a new book for you to check out and design an activity to go along with it. Each box will be different from the next and designed especially for you. Please allow 1 week after submission for custom box creation.

Reading with the Rays: Program opens May 26th. Win Rays tickets for reading!

Pizza Hut: Camp Book It! Summer Reading: Open to all families with PreK-6th grade (4-12) students. Parents set goals, track reading, and reward students through the website: Free pizza for reading!

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program: Students K-8 read 8 books and earn a free book. (Pick up a paper to fill out at your local Barnes and Noble.)
