At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we quickly realized the 17th Annual Walker's Rising Stars scholarship competition would have to be re-imagined. While our students could no longer perform to a crowd at the Mahaffey Theater, our sponsors rallied together with us to proclaim "the show must go on!" In that spirit, we have been showcasing the skill and artistry of our students with video performances throughout the month of May on Facebook and YouTube.
Walker’s Rising Stars was created by the Pinellas Education Foundation, Pinellas County Schools and the program’s longtime benefactor, Dr. Jeffrey Walker, to provide students of the arts with a platform to showcase their talent, hone their audition and performance skills, and win valuable scholarships to pursue their post-secondary education. Participants in Walker’s Rising Stars compete in six categories: Culinary Arts, Dance, Instrumental, Theater, Visual Arts and Vocal Performance.
We want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to all of our generous donors, who continue to support us during these difficult times. Because of their support each one of the 22 Walker’s Rising Stars finalists will be receiving scholarship awards!
Join us in celebrating these incredibly talented students by watching their videos, giving them a like and leaving a congratulatory comment. We hope you enjoy their beautiful work!
