Gibbs and St. Pete high schools' boys' basketball teams won the 4A and 5A regional championships, respectively, and advanced to the state Final Four, both falling short in the semifinal games.
Gibbs High School lost to Mater Lakes Academy (Miami) 47-39 in the 4A State semifinal game March 2. This was Gibbs' second straight final four appearance. The team finished the season with a 23-6 record.
St. Petersburg High School lost to Mainland High School 43-38 in the 5A State semifinals game also on March 2. The St. Petersburg High School boys’ basketball team has been to the final four six times in the last 12 years. They finished with a season record of 23-7.
