The Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School jazz band performed for the residents of Seasons Belleair Memory Care in Clearwater on Monday. The band played five songs for a large group of residents.
“Before the trip we had a discussion of the impact of the arts on people of all ages and especially how, for patients with dementia or memory loss, music can bring back memories or give a moment of joy or levity,” said band director Phillip Bracken-Tripp. “The students really seemed to understand the importance of the service they were providing and appreciated getting to give back to our community in that way.”
The jazz band has 19 members and recently earned a superior at the district Music Performance Assessment.
