Pinellas Technical College would like to congratulate Erika Pineda, the deserving recipient of the Maria Edmonds Scholarship and a student in the Practical Nursing program at the Clearwater campus. The scholarship is named for the late Maria Nieves Edmonds, who helped to create the Women on the Way program, which provided support and resources to women who struggled to be successful students. The program started with fifteen participants in 1981; today, more than 300 women are enrolled throughout the county.
Edmonds' legacy as a Hispanic woman and an education advocate continues beyond her retirement from a 28-year career, as the associate provost at St. Petersburg Campus, Tarpon Springs campus. This scholarship is designated to assist students of Hispanic heritage achieve their dream of higher education, and allow them to pursue careers in the skilled trades.
