Lakewood High students unveil Diabetes Awareness campaign
May 16, 2017
Students from the Lakewood High School Health Squad and CATCOM produced a Zombie-themed video to raise awareness of the risks of type 2 diabetes among youth. Lakewood students developed the concept for a public service announcement video and then were involved in all aspects of its production, including script-writing, filming and editing. In addition, students created a logo and the social media hashtags #DONTBEAZOMBIE and #FATEONURPLATE for the campaign.
Nearly one in three teens in the U.S. are overweight. The project is part of the Tampa Bay Diabetes Collaborative and is sponsored by the Juvenile Welfare Board, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and Pinellas County Schools.
