District continues to support Floridians affected by Hurricane Irma

Pinellas County Schools is continuing to support Floridians who were affected by Hurricane Irma. Tuesday morning, a district 53-foot trailer loaded with 24 pallets of water headed to Collier County. That is about 4,500 bottles of water. Collier County, which includes Naples, sustained a major hit from Hurricane Irma. According to the Naples Daily News, the hurricane’s heavy rainfall and storm surge may have contaminated the public water supply and that it could also be unsafe to drink any unsealed beverages at restaurants. In addition, the school district remains closed with students returning to class no earlier than Monday, Sept. 25.
During Hurricane Irma, the district sheltered approximately 25,000 people in 17 school facilities. District bus drivers also transported people from residential facilities to shelters, food service workers provided meals and snacks, and maintenance workers and plant operators provided their services.
