School Board member Rene Flowers honored as finalist for the Council of the Great City Schools Green-Garner Award

The Green-Garner Award recognizes outstanding contributions to urban education leadership. Ms. Flowers was honored at the Council's annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky, on Oct. 24. She was one of 11 finalists from 76 urban school districts represented by the Council.
The award, named in memory of urban school leaders Richard R. Green and Edward Garner, recognizes leadership, professionalism, improvements in student achievement, improvements in public confidence and involvement in the Council of the Great City Schools. The Green-Garner Award is sponsored by the Council, ARAMARK Education, Scholastic, Inc. and Cenergistic Inc.
Ms. Flowers is serving her third term as a board member and her second consecutive term as School Board chairperson. She serves on the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) Legislative Committee, and, last year, she served as FSBA Advocacy Committee Chair. Prior to serving on the School Board, she served two terms on the St. Petersburg City Council.
