Record number of seventh-graders to take SAT
Dec. 4, 2019
A record number of Pinellas County Schools seventh-graders are taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Saturday, Dec. 7. The district’s Talent Identification Program (PCS TIP) identifies the top 15 percent of seventh-grade students at each school based on the 2019 Florida Standards Assessments for English Language Arts and Math. Students will test in reading, writing, language and math, with the essay portion optional. There will be 938 students taking the exam at six locations throughout the district.
The SAT is a three-hour test and a 50-minute long essay. The scores will help identify strengths and weaknesses and customize a study guide to help students with college prep academic plans. The PCS TIP program was one of Superintendent Michael Grego’s first initiatives when he joined the district during the 2012-2013 school year. The SAT was taken by 2.22 million high school graduates in 2019.
