Pinellas County Schools wins multiple awards at the Florida History Day competition

Florida History Day Competitiors

Pinellas students won seven awards at the Florida History Day competition, and two students are advancing to the National History Day competition in June:

  • 1st Place Junior Individual Documentary - Darian Grob of Dunedin Highland Middle School: “The Melodies of Change: Marvin Gaye’s Music of Advocacy and Urgency” 
  • 2nd Place Senior Individual Performance - Eleanor Nartker of Palm Harbor University High School: “Te Titri o Waitangi: A History of Maori Land Rights”

The Florida History Day contest was held May 4-6 in Tallahassee. In June, the top scholars will join students from across the U.S., American Samoa, Guam, and international schools in East and South Asia at the National History Day® competition.

  • Hispanic Heritage Award & Cubberly Award (Florida History) – Hannah Moore of Dunedin Highland Middle School - Junior Research Paper “Operation Pedro Pan”
  • Holocaust History Award – Elsa Kabashi of Palm Harbor University High School – Senior Individual Website “Besa – Rights and Responsibilities of Honoring an Ancient Oath”

 
3rd Place Finishers

  • 3rd Place Senior Individual Performance - “Reporting from Chicago! The End of Prohibition” – Liliana Leonarduzzi of Palm Harbor University High School
  • 3rd Place Junior Group Documentary - “Rights, Camera, Responsibility: The Spectacle and Significance of the Hollywood Ten” – Evan Wehner, Fiona Boyd, Jayde Jean-Baptiste, Mahogany Stevens, Mia Lipczynski of Dunedin Highland Middle School
  • 3rd Place Senior Group Exhibit - “Revealing Rights, Decoding Responsibilities: The Navajo Code Talkers” – Asia Gallihugh, Azriela Talisaysay, CJ Nigels, Lauren Schubert of Dunedin Highland Middle School
