Maria Edmonds Awards

The Third Annual Marie Edmonds Hispanic Achievement Awards honors 475 elementary, middle and high school students for their outstanding academic achievements. Approximately 2,200 students and their families gathered at Ruth Eckerd Hall for this special event named after an educator who was a dedicated advocate for women, children and Hispanics. Mrs. Edmonds successfully lobbied for the state-level DREAM ACT, which allows some undocumented immigrants to qualify for in-state tuition. Edmonds passed away in 2017 but her legacy lives on.
