Senior Naseem Hamed of the Center for Advanced Technologies received news on Monday that he has qualified for the finals of a Take Stock in Children scholarship.
Take Stock in Children is a non-profit organization that aims to help students with their college educations. With a payout of around $40,000, the scholarship could pay for all college expenses. Hamed qualified with a pair of essays, one about leadership and one about having a five-year plan for college. As a finalist he has already won a Mac laptop.
Hamed said he heard about the scholarship at a Take Stock in Children meeting, and he applied last September. He said he wants to attend the University of Florida and major in computer science.
His family has backed him throughout the entire process.
“They encourage me to do these sorts of things. They’re super supportive,” Hamed said.
The next step in the application process involves the creation of a video essay. While Hamed still has competitors, his family is confident in him.
“I know he’s smart. He’s brilliant,” said Hamed’s father, Sameer Hamed.
