Lakewood Spartan wide receiver Rodney Adams has been nominated to play in the U.S. Army All-American game. Army Sgt. Daniel Gonzalez and Sgt. Inja Gordon on Tuesday (May 1) presented Adams, a junior, with his invitation.
Adams, one of three students from Pinellas County nominated for the team, found out about the honor on April 23 from football coach Cory Moore. Adams said that he never thought in his wildest dreams that he would be in this position.
“Coach Moore called me, and I had not only made the Team USA Football team but I was being nominated for the U.S. Army game,” said Adams.
Moore was also in attendance Tuesday in the principal’s conference room. “I feel good and glad he is getting this opportunity,” said Moore. “It couldn’t have happened to a better kid.”
Moore offer Adams, who is verbally committed to the University of Florida, some words of advice: “(He needs to) stay humble, never get to the point where he thinks he knows everything and always remember where he came from.”
Adams said he would like to thank God, his receiving coach, Rod Williams, Moore, his family, his girlfriend Kasey Drayton, and lastly his teammates for helping him achieve this honor.
