Four PCS schools named National Magnet Schools of Distinction
Jan. 15, 2019
Douglas L. Jamerson Jr., Gulfport Montessori and Perkins elementary schools, and James B. Sanderlin PK-8 IB World School were recognized by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.
To receive the National Magnet School of Distinction Merit Award, schools must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. Schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.
The schools will receive their National Magnet School of Distinction Merit Awards at Magnet Schools of America’s 37th National Conference, which will take place April 10-13 in Baltimore, Maryland.
