Pinellas County Schools sees gains in math, geometry scores
June 28, 2022
The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) released the 2022 district-level results for the following assessments: grades 3-10 Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, and End-of-Course (EOC) exams in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Pinellas County Schools students continue to move in a positive direction with FSA and EOC scores.
District Summary:
- In FSA ELA, the district remained stable with 51% proficiency in grades 3-10. The state also remained stable with 52% proficiency in grades 3-10.
- In FSA Mathematics, the district outpaced the state (55%) with 56% proficiency in grades 3-8. This includes a three-percentage point increase in grades 3-5 and a one percentage point increase in grades 6-8.
- In the Geometry End-of-Course exam, the district demonstrated a 14-percentage point increase to 55% proficiency and outpaced the state (49%).
- End-of-Course results for Algebra I demonstrated a two-percentage point increase to 75% proficiency for students in grades 8 or lower with a two-percentage point decrease to 26% proficiency for students in grades 9-12.
“These results are very encouraging,” said incoming Pinellas County Schools Superintendent Kevin Hendrick. “Our teachers, staff, students and families have worked hard this year to continue our upward trajectory and overcome any learning losses experienced during the pandemic. We will continue to use assessment data to provide individualized supports for our students, and to focus resources where they are most needed. I want to sincerely thank our teachers, administrators and school board members for their unwavering dedication to the students of Pinellas County.”
While the state is recognizing a narrowing of student achievement gaps, the data released today does not allow the district to immediately assess school grades, achievement gap data or student-level data. It is anticipated that FDOE will release school-level information along with data for science and social studies assessments on Thursday, June 30.
