The Florida Orchestra Teaching Artist Program
The Florida Orchestra Teaching Artist program is an innovative partnership between Pinellas County Schools and The Florida Orchestra. Funded by the Pinellas County Referendum and The Florida Orchestra, the initial pilot program included the hiring of a violin teaching artist position who both worked with teachers and students our public schools, as well as performed with The Florida Orchestra as an extra musician. The pilot program was such a success, that a viola teaching artist was added by the second year.
The Florida Orchestra Teaching Artist program enhances string programs in public schools through a rich connection with The Florida Orchestra. What sets this program apart is the quality of musicianship that the Teaching Artists bring into our classrooms. Demonstration of professional instrument tone and technique is inspiring to students and teachers alike. Teaching Artists also provide classroom support and professional development to string teachers at all levels, and support students’ development and potential for achievement through mentorship.
