This marks the third time that the award-winning band has been invited to the prestigious parade.
Seminole High Band Director Gerard Madrinan delivered the surprise news at Friday's marching band practice. The parade in Pasadena, California, traditionally precedes the Rose Bowl, which takes place on New Year's Day.
"I am incredibly proud of the Seminole High School band," said Pre-K-12 Performing Arts Specialist Ajori B. Spencer. "Being selected as one of only 20 bands throughout the country is a testament to the remarkable work ethic of our students and teachers and the steadfast support of our community."
The Warhawk Marching Band also performed in the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2005 and 2013. Bands are selected based on various criteria, including musicianship, marching ability, uniqueness, entertainment value or special interest.
The Seminole High School Warhawk Marching Band is a nationally recognized band that has performed locally and nationally during its 50-plus-year history. A highly respected leader in the Florida circuit, the band competes in Class 4A and attends several local competitions each year as well as the Florida Marching Band Championships. Every other year, the band travels out of state to a Bands of America Regional.
