After a tense and tied first half, the JHMS Trojans defeated their Bay Point rivals to take first
place Wednesday night with a final score of 52-37. Both teams had been tied for first place in the division.
"All starters scored double figures," said Coach Williams. Coach said all of the starters were star players in the game, but "Ray Perry the point guard and Keandre Sumler were especially great.”
The score was tied 20-20 at halftime. The Trojans used a 1-2-1-1 man press and a 2-1-2 zone press to create turnover after turnover and held the Falcons to 17 second-half points.
The Trojans offense was clicking on all cylinders with a spread offense and great shooting from the free throw line. Three Trojans shot 18 for 25 attempts and shot over 50% from the field.
Leading scorers in Wednesday night's game were Cornelius McKenzie (16 pts.), Ray Perry (14 pts.), Cortez McKenzie (13 pts.), and Keandre Sumler (10 pts.).
The Trojans have won 7 games in a row and their record stands at 7-1. They are 3-1 at home and 4-0 on the road. Next game: Monday at home against Tyrone. Tipoff is at 4:45 p.m.
