Lakewood High School’s girls track team placed first in the regionals while the boys team placed fourth. The girls team had an overall of 75 points. “I think they did an awesome job. Five out of six relays qualified (for state). We only thought three would,” said Coach Anthony Snead, Lakewood’s web and digital design teacher. “Overall it was very good.”

Senior Kala Funderburk placed first in the 400 with 55.2 seconds, second in the 4x400 relay with three minutes and 58 seconds, and second in the high jump with 5’6. She said she is really looking forward to states.

“I think I’ll do good because I did really good at regional’s. That would just be like the greatest ending to high school. Everyone wants to win a state championship, and most of them are done on teams so to me, to do it individually to know that my hard work pays off, it would just be amazing,” said Funderburk.
