Good afternoon Eagle Families,
This is Dan Schmittdiel, Principal of East Lake High School with some important reminders for the week. Looking outside of the academics, our students are always ready to SOAR to success as we move through the year. Let’s show our school spirit and cheer on our different sports teams, clubs, and performing arts programs throughout the year – this week our boys and girls Golf Team compete against Seminole HS/Northeast HS and Dunedin HS/Seminole HS at Wentworth on Tuesday 9/26, our JV/Varsity Volleyball team takes on Countryside HS in Volleyball on Tuesday 9/26 (home)/Clearwater HS on Wednesday 9/27 (home)/Largo HS on Thursday 9/28 (home), our JV Football Team takes on Tarpon Springs HS Wednesday 9/27 (home), our Varsity Swim and Dive Team compete against Clearwater HS on Wednesday 9/27, our Varsity Bowling Team takes on Tarpon Springs HS at Dunedin Lanes on Thursday 9/28, and our boys Varsity Football Team will take on George Steinbrenner HS on Friday 9/29 (home). We hope to see you there to cheer on the teams this week, good luck Eagles! Also, as a quick reminder, there is no school for students on Monday, September 25th. We will see them to start the week on Tuesday, September 26th!
Concordant Score Testing
For juniors and/or seniors requiring either a concordant score for their 10th grade ELA or Algebra 1 EOC graduation testing requirements, we will have make-up retake testing this week. If your student missed testing this week, they’ll be scheduled to take the assessment this week. If your student tested last week on the FAST ELA PM3 assessment for concordant score retakes but unfortunately didn’t pass, we will have an additional testing opportunity for the FSA ELA retakes, which is a three day assessment, this week.
Upcoming PSAT and SAT
As a reminder, we have upcoming SAT and PSAT testing in October, free of charge for all students. This year, all seniors have been scheduled to take the October 11th SAT free of charge. This is a paper-based assessment that will take place on campus during the school day for all seniors. Additionally, all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors have been registered for PSAT testing for later in the month of October free of charge. This will be a computer-based assessment that will also take place on campus during the school day for each grade level. More information regarding logistics will be sent out throughout the month of September, but we wanted to ensure families were aware that students will not need to opt-in this year.
College and Career Center Updates
The Countryside College and Career Fair will take place on Monday, October 2nd. This will take place at Countryside HS from 6-7:30pm with over 140 Colleges and Universities and 60 employers on campus. This is free admission for all - in the attached flyer, you can find more information.
Additionally, College Admissions Advisors are coming to East Lake High School! The school dates and times are listed in the attached flyer. Please have your junior or senior sign up for any that they are interested in!
Cellphones and Dress Code
Parents, please continue to remind your students about our cellphone expectations at ELHS (appropriate use during passing time and lunch is permitted). Teachers may utilize them for academic purposes within the classroom but they must be off and put away all other times. Additionally, if you need to get in touch with your student during the school day, please call the office, not their cellphone. We will get them the message or call them down to the office if needed.
Additionally, we expect students to follow the Pinellas County Schools dress code every day at East Lake High School. Please make sure to review this with your student – it can be found on page 56 of the Student Code of Conduct (2023-2024-Student-Code-of-Conduct.pdf (pcsb.org)
As a reminder, these and other discipline incidences are addressed using both the Student Code of Conduct and our ELHS Discipline Matrix throughout the year.
