Weekend Update - 10-24-20
Hello, Carwise Middle School families. This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with some weekend updates. I hope everyone is doing well this weekend. I wanted to reach out early this weekend to remind everyone that there is no school on Monday, October 26th for students. Monday is a teacher workday.
On Tuesday, our Traditional 8th graders will be taking the PSAT 8/9. Students will report to their 1st period class for this assessment. The PSAT 8/9 evaluates the skills each student has developed in reading, mathematics and writing. This assessment is an effective way for a student to start getting ready for the SAT. Additionally, the PSAT 8/9 gives each student personalized feedback about their academic strengths and weaknesses, helping each student to prepare for success in college and the workforce.
Our MyPCS students who previously responded that they wanted to take the PSAT 8/9 at Carwise Middle are schedule to do so on Wednesday and Thursday. 8th grade MyPCS students with the last name that starts with A through J will test on Wednesday. Then, 8th grade MyPCS students with the last name that starts with K through Z will test on Thursday. These students should be dropped off behind the school in the circle and arrive no later than 9:45AM. Please look for the PSTA check-in table. Students will need #2 pencils. After the test, parents should pick-up their child at 1:30PM behind the school in the car circle.
Also, on Wednesday and Thursday, we will be participating in our second fire drill of the school year. This drill will again be a staggered evacuation to ensure social distancing of students. Please speak to your child about the importance of practicing emergency drills. Thank you!
Also occurring next week is Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a time to educate our youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. This week we will be sponsoring special events each day so students can show their support for a drug free school and lifestyle.
- Tuesday – Sock it to Drugs Day – Wear your crazy socks!
- Wednesday – Red Ribbon Day – Wear RED!
- Thursday – Team Up Against Drugs – Wear your favorite sports team gear!
- Friday – Scare Drugs Away – Wear a Halloween shirt or costume! (must be school appropriate, follow school dress code, and no full-face masks)
Attention 8th graders, don’t forget to turn in your baby picture to be included in this year’s yearbook! Pictures must be from birth to age two. One picture per student only. Please drop off your baby picture to the 8th grade office or submit them through eShare (http://www.hjeshare.com/eShare/?code=394). Baby pictures are due by October 31st. Thank you!
Parents, for those of you who pick-up meals for home from the school, our meal distribution day will be changing to Thursdays after school. So, starting next week (October 29th) food distribution will on Thursday from 5 to 6:30PM. If you have any questions, please contact our Cafeteria Manager.
Finally, we look forward to welcoming back over 200 students to the Traditional setting at Carwise Middle on Tuesday, October 27th (only those families that made a request and were contacted last week are scheduled to return at this time). All students will report to first period on Tuesday. We will have signs posted outside so students know where their first period class is located. Many students will have some minor changes to their schedules as some teacher schedules were changed in order to accommodate returning students. Additionally, with over 200 students returning, I want to take this time to remind everyone of the importance of continuing our safety procedures at school. First, masks (face coverings) must be worn while on campus. Students mouth and nose must be covered. Additionally, social distancing is a must, especially during non-structured times, such as before/after school and class changes. Also, students must sit in their assigned seats during class time and lunch time. We also have one-way halls in each grade level wing, as well as one-way stair wells. Last, parents, please remember to keep your child home if they are sick. Also, if your child or a household family member tests positive for COVID-19, it is imperative that your child stay home and that you alert the school. Thank you everyone with your help enforcing these procedures to ensure that our students and staff stay healthy.
Thank you, again Carwise Middle School families and staff for working together this school year. I appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend and remember there is no school for students on Monday. Take care!
